Knowing when to ask for (and how to
accept) help is one of the #1 keys to creating success as an entrepreneur. Nothing great was ever built
by a single person. (Even Jesus had his 12 apostles.) If you are going to create a profitable
& successful business for yourself, you will need mentors, guides, advisors, friends, promoters, and assistants.
You will also need guidance, support, encouragement and different perspectives. In short, you will
need help. And the more successful you become, the more help you will need.
Many people who come to me for help with building their New Age Businesses seem to think that they should be able to
do everything themselves. In fact, they are often apologetic about needing help at all.
It’s as if they think that asking for help is a sign of “weakness”. Quite the
opposite is true. It takes a very strong person to acknowledge that she can’t do it on her own, and
to reach out with an open heart for assistance.
Also, if you must ask for help, then
it probably means that your business is growing into something much larger (and more successful) than it has been before.
For example, earlier this year I had to hire a part-time assistant to help me with all the day-to-day details of running
my business, such as banking, filing, running errands, shopping for workshops, and data entry. Just this
week, I also hired another part-time assistant specifically to help me maintain my various websites.
Do you think that I am recruiting these people to work for me because I am “weak” or because my business
is “unsuccessful”? No, of course not. In fact, the very reason that I need
these people is because my business has become so successful that I can now no longer run it on my own. And
in truth, I never have run it “on my own”. Even before I had people who were officially
“working” for me, I have always been helped & supported by a very large team. In fact,
if you are reading this newsletter, I consider YOU part of my team.
Dozens and dozens of people have provided me help and guidance throughout the years,
including help with editing, mailings, word-of-mouth promotion, moral support & encouragement, childcare, booklet assembly,
software acquisition, website tips, business advice & direction, and much more. Some of this help &
guidance I have paid for; other times it was given to me freely. In either case, I was very, very grateful
and my business grew as a result.
I have also been helped by books,
websites, classes, seminars, tape & CD sets, progressive-minded churches & spiritual communities, and professional
readings & coaching. And of course, the greatest help of all has come by meditating on Spirit &
attuning with my Inner Self and my Angels & Guides.
You can see
from reading this that there are a lot of help & resources that go into building a successful business as a New Age Entrepreneur.
Even though you may think that you are just a “Sole Entrepreneur”, in reality, you are a Soul Entrepreneur,
connected with the energy of souls everywhere.
So, how do you know when you need help with your business? Chances
are good that you DO need help with some aspect of your business, or you wouldn’t be reading this newsletter.
However, that aside, it’s pretty simple really. If you feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or discouraged
about a certain aspect of your business, even after taking a break from thinking about it, then you need help.
Especially if you feel angry, annoyed or frustrated about a specific project or aspect of your business, or if
you feel that there’s just not enough of you to go around, then you need help. You may also
need help if you just feel “stuck” with a certain area of your business.
By nature, having a spiritual-based business is supposed to be fun. Your New Age business
should leave you feeling energized & uplifted. If it isn’t, then it may be time to get someone
to help you do the things that are sucking the life out of you.
How do you get the help you need? First, begin by humbly & prayerfully
acknowledging to the Universe that you are in over your head & need help. Then, ask Spirit/God/Universe
to help you find the help you need. Ask your angels and guides to bring all the right, perfect people,
tools, & resources to you at the right & perfect moment. Ask your “spiritual guidance”
team to help you recognize when the right & appropriate help appears.
Next, begin to get very clear & specific about what kind of help you want. Write it down.
And don’t just write down a job title here, either. Instead, write down a clear & concise
description of what you need help with or wants need to be done. (For example: Someone
to help me secure publicity spots on TV & radio. Or: Help getting my files organized.)
Next, write down how much you are able & willing to pay this person. If you aren’t able
to pay someone money, or if you would just prefer to have a “volunteer”, then write down what you think this “helping
experience” can offer your volunteer. (For example: Payment is opportunity to develop resume for
qualified person & have friendship with a fabulous person.)
Writing down
what kind of help you want & how much you can afford to pay for it plants the idea deep down into your subconscious.
Once your subconscious “gets” that you are serious about needing & wanting help, it will begin to go
about making this a reality for you.
It may take
a short time or a long time for the help to “appear”, depending on how open you are and whether or not you are
truly ready to accept assistance. Sometimes the help you requested appears in the form of a person, book,
class, or even a new idea. However it appears, just be *open* to receive it, and follow it as far as you
can, until the next form of “help” arrives.
